Become a Credit Union Advocate

Credit unions benefit everyone – whether you are a member of a credit union or not.

Members save over $6 billion each year by doing business with their credit unions as opposed to banks, through lower fees and interest rates, and higher returns on deposits. Bank customers benefit as well, to the tune of $2 billion because credit unions provide competition in the marketplace. With credit unions existing in the United States, consumers save over $8 billion annually.

Credit unions are exempt from Federal and most State income taxes because they are member-owned, democratically operated, not-for-profit cooperatives, generally managed by volunteer boards of directors with a specified purpose of promoting thrift and providing access to credit for provident purposes.

The not-for-profit governance model relies on one member, one vote. Unlike banks, credit unions exist to serve their members…not investors.

USU Credit Union is part of a national campaign dedicated to preserving the financial choice for Americans by ensuring the U.S. Congress doesn’t raise taxes on 96 million credit union members nationwide. USU Credit Union invites our members to join the cause and become credit union advocates.
