As someone who has lived and worked in Weber County for most of my life, I’ve always felt a deep sense of pride in our community and the institutions that help shape who we are. Goldenwest Credit Union is one of those long-standing institutions. Founded in Ogden in 1936 by local railroad workers, our organization was built on the philosophy of “People Helping People,” and that spirit has guided us ever since.

Today, I am excited to share news that reflects that same spirit of unity, progress, and hard work. Goldenwest Credit Union and Ascent Credit Union have announced our intent to merge. This merger will bring together two organizations that share not only strong financial foundations, but similar roots and a proud heritage tied to Weber County.

Ascent Credit Union, originally founded as Weber State Credit Union in 1957, has provided affordable financial services to families and students for nearly seven decades. For both credit unions, Weber County is the place we call home. Whether cheering on the Wildcats, supporting campus initiatives, or helping students and alumni build their financial futures, both Goldenwest and Ascent have long-standing relationships in northern Utah that go back generations.

This merger is a natural extension of that shared history.

For Goldenwest members, this merger will add four branch locations in Weber County to our network: Ogden (Harrison Boulevard), North Ogden, Roy, and the Weber State University campus in the Shepherd Union Building.

For Ascent members, it means returning to your Weber State roots and joining a growing credit union with vast resources, expanded reach, and an unwavering commitment to exceptional member service.

Most importantly, this merger allows both organizations to deliver more convenience, more expertise, and more opportunities to support our members’ financial goals.

We anticipate completing the merger in 2026. Over the coming months, we’ll keep you informed as the merger progresses and let you know when you’ll be able to access the new branch locations and new products such as the Weber State affinity Visa card. Together, we truly believe this merger strengthens not only our credit unions, but the entire Weber State community we proudly serve.
