Branch Innovation at USU Credit Union

About 15 years ago, we introduced online banking to our membership. Over time, as functionality and features expanded within the online platform, digitally-performed transactions surpassed in-branch transactions. The next major innovation in self-serve banking came with the introduction of smart phones and mobile banking apps. Members quickly embraced the technology allowing them to manage their accounts and conduct transactions on-the-go, 24/7.

But what about branch innovation? Has much changed with the in-branch transaction experience in recent years?

Since summer 2016, USU Credit Union, and its parent organization, Goldenwest Credit Union, have opened five offices with Personal Teller Machines in the branch lobbies. We have combined digital technology with a new branch design as part of our initiative to provide advanced self-service options for our members.

Personal Teller Machines can perform almost any transaction that can be conducted at a traditional teller station. Members can deposit multiple checks and a mix of cash into their account at the machine, no envelope required. They can also withdraw specific amounts of cash down to the dollar.

With the installation of the Personal Teller Machines, the Credit Union has been mindful not to sacrifice personal service for technology.

“Depending on needs and preferences of each member, our branches with Personal Teller Machines can offer self-service expediency as well as one-on-one service from our Credit Union Experts on staff,” commented Kerry Wahlen, Goldenwest President/CEO. “Our primary objective continues to provide excellent member care within our branches and through our digital channels.”

Wahlen stated it’s an exciting time for Goldenwest Credit Union as they move forward with a new branch model.

“Members may notice our new branch footprint is smaller,” added Wahlen. “We believe the introduction of Personal Teller Machines has not only helped improve efficiency with member service inside the branches, but also assisted us in better utilizing our space and resources.”

Personal Teller Machines are available for member use at the USU Credit Union branches in Providence and inside the Welcome Center on the Utah State University campus in Logan, and at the Goldenwest branches in West Jordan, Centerville and Marriott-Slaterville. Non-members who belong to a credit union that participates in the CO-OP Shared Branch network can also access their accounts at the Personal Teller Machines following a brief enrollment process.
